Option to name color categories.

Patrick Domenig 11 jaar geleden bijgewerkt door Sandra 7 jaar geleden 26

In our family we use the colors for different food categories. For example red means meat, green means vegetables, orange means cleaning and bathroom stuff, blue is all milk products. However, since I am not able to name the colors my kids keep asking me what color means what category.

I'm with you.  If we were able to name the colors, then they would be easier to remember and everything you have on your list that you want together would be that way.  Also, it would be nice to have a few more colors so you could added a little more categories to your grocery lists.  Thanks so much.  Love the app.

I agree. To keep the list organised it's important to add the right categorie for each new produkt. But it is hard to remember colors and categories. So please let us ad some text to the colors (just a few lettres would already be  a hugh help).

Also consider expanding this idea, I added a new item to here http://buymeapie.userecho.com/topic/359769-category-names-and-groups-in-item-list-and-custom-categories/ it would go along perfectly with this feature.

I also support the idea of adding text markers. It's more obvious to consolidate the goods in "Meat", "Vegetables" e.t.c. groups, than to guess that green means vegetables.

Absolutely, we organize by the store we typically shop at, so that colors are less important than the categories. Once we have categories, the colors will just be a nice visual to help us to remember. I'm curious about how many categories people have. There is probably a need for more categories than there are colors.

This is easy to solve, right now...
Create a New List, called Colours
Add 8 items to it, each one starting with the '=' character
e.g. =Fruit And Veg
Assign a colour to it, e.g Teal
And so on

Now, in any list, typing '=' brings up a handy reminder of what all the colours are for

I use, since my most-used Supermarket is organised roughly like this:
=Fruit And Veg                           (Teal)
=Fresh Meat Fish Pasta             (Green)
=Dairy Eggs Juices                    (Pink)
=Baking Bread Cakes                 (Orange)
=Store Cupboard                        (Red)
=Household And Pets                 (Purple)
=Wine Beer Spirits                     (Blue)
=Personal                                  (White/No Colour)

I agree with other responses. A nice idea but a work around to a feature that should be in the app. Humans aren't good at remembering which colours relate to a place or category. They need headings or a key.

Clever Phil, but definitely a work-around for a missing feature.

I love the simplicity of this app, but not having any explanation as to the intended categories and their default colors makes it hard to add new items that are not in the default library.  I would like to use the built-in color conventions but I am presented with strange circles and patterns that don't mean anything to me as a new user.

What good does it do me to assign a color to a new item if I don't know what those colors are supposed to mean?  It's basically making me pick a color at random.  If you just had a list of what the developers intended the colors to mean, the user could work with that convention and stay organized.

Come on guys, finish what you started here.

How about adding a calculator so I don't have to jump from one screen to another?
And give us a place to add another color if we need it

If you have the PRO version there are almost limitless colours. I use it myself and there are far more colours than I am ever going to need.

I like this. However only if it's optional.

The very best would be both together:

- ability to re-order the colors, AND

- ability to give them a name.

Has this not been looked at for TWO YEARS?

Good Heavens! I'm new to Buy Me a Pie! - this request seems to be about the most reasonable thing to me!

I really wish this feature is implemented soon. With so many categories now in my catalogue it's now hard to keep up with what colour means what? I am still okay as I updated database myself, but my wife and kids do not know my colouring logic and they find it too cumbersome to remember it.

my grocery store just changed their layout, could really use this option!!!

Yes! I want to label my colors according to the layout of my store so when I'm in the produce department I can see everything there that's on my list. Plus, I forget what the colors mean, so having a label would really help me.

I finally gave up and started using an app called OurGroceries. It's awesome!!!

I could not find the OurGroceries on the App store

https://www.ourgroceries.com/overview Hmmm, I don't know. It looks like they have it for both Apple and Android. ??? I love it!!

First, I think that your app. Is awesome.
I would ask that you think about putting numbers in the color code blocks.
In almost all grocery stores, the isles have numbers. This way you can sort by isle.
I now have to put the isle number after the item when I put in in the program. This works fine, but I am not allowed to sort it in order of isles.
Again, I think the app is great and works well in sharing with my wife,s phone

I would like to be able to change the colors and order them as best I like, with color grades that I prefere and use them for different food categories as I like.

You have to be able to use each color for your personal different food categories (I use the colors also to differentiate Gluten-Free-food from Gluten-Food but I want to choise my prefered color grade and assign it to a my personal food categories).

In summary, I would like a basic layout that will propose the color range of the rainbow with different color grades for each color (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Blue, Purple, Lilac and their gradiations), but any color can still be customized and assigned to a food categories as I like.

Look at the image for inspire rainbow colors:

I still think that your program is great, especially when sharing, but I would still like to see the program  sorted with (Numbers). As most stores are laid out with numbers of the isles in the store

I definitely agree. So much easier instead of remembering which colour is what. And can we please pick the colours ourselves?
